SMB Security Review score

Browser-based security that blocks phishing, malware and scam sites before they load. Best used alongside endpoint protection as a browser-level defence layer.

What is Guardio?

Guardio is a browser security extension that works at the DNS and URL level to block phishing pages, malware distribution sites, scam sites, and malicious ads before they even load. Unlike endpoint antivirus that scans files after they've been downloaded, Guardio prevents the malicious page from rendering at all — which is particularly effective against credential-harvesting phishing sites that don't involve any file download.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Blocks phishing sites before they load — not after
  • Protects against malicious ads and scam sites automatically
  • Works on any content clicked in any app — email, Slack, SMS
  • Easy to deploy — browser extension, no device-level agent needed

Cons

  • Not a replacement for endpoint protection
  • Limited to browser-based threats — doesn't protect against file-based malware
  • Per-user cost adds up for larger teams

Best for

  • SMBs wanting browser-level phishing protection as a complement to AV
  • Teams where phishing via email or messaging is a concern
  • Businesses wanting quick deployment without device-level agents

Our verdict

Guardio earns its place as a browser security layer, not a standalone solution. Deploy it alongside your endpoint protection (Bitdefender or ESET) and password manager (NordPass) for defence-in-depth. Its strength is catching phishing sites that slip past email filters — the page never loads, so credentials can't be entered. The per-user pricing is reasonable for what it provides.
